For timeless beauty, choose these natural stone options
Ever-popular granite and classic marble are gifts from nature. Both stones have been used for centuries in buildings around the world. Today they’re in demand for countertops.
Granite
Watch any home remodeling show on TV these days and you’ll see a lot of granite countertops, they’re a very popular choice for home remodelers! Granite is in demand for its glossy beauty and extensive range of colors and textures, from bold to subtle. Some granite even has a bit of sparkle from the quartz embedded in the stone.
Formed over millions of years from compacted quartz, granite stands up to the wear and tear of heavy cooking and demanding kitchen use. It’s also naturally anti-microbial and stain-resistant, making it a safe surface to prepare food.
Because it’s very hard, granite can be polished to a glistening finish. The look of granite gives your kitchen or bath a luxurious feel—adding elegance and prestige.
Marble
Formed deep within the earth, marble is recrystalized limestone that obtains new minerals through intense pressure, creating a graceful and subtly soft stone, ideal for spaces where you’re looking for a formal and glamorous look, or a traditional, historic feeling. Marble also stays very cool, making it a preferred choice for bakers rolling out cookies or pastry dough.
Marble is generally less expensive than quartz, depending on the marble. It’s usually white with gray veins and can also be a soft gray or even pink. There are darker marbles, too.
One homeowner commented, “… After living with marble countertops, I find it elegant, cool, and bright. It’s lovely to work on, and easy to clean.”
