Introducing Classique Floors + Tile Project Consultant, Carly Hunt
CF+T: Carly, what is your background. Are you from Portland?
CH: I like to call myself a Native because I grew up in the Willamette Valley. I moved here with my family when I was 6 from North Dakota. I spent my school years in Corvallis on a 500 acre farm.
I moved to San Diego for four years after high school to get my degree in Interior Design. I came back after college and have been working in the flooring industry ever since.
CF+T: How did you come to Classique?
CH: I previously worked for a large tile distributor in the Northwest. I wanted to expand my skills and experience and knew the best route was to work for a dealer like Classique Floors. Since then, I have never looked back and Classique is like a second family.
CF+T: What is your role with the company?
CH: ‘Wearer of many hats.’
Technically I am a Project Manager in Retail Sales, but, as the other Project Managers know, we are required to be superheros sometimes.
CF+T: What are the biggest trends in flooring and tile that you see affecting your customers?
CH: Be open minded about GREY. Grey has taken over as the new neutral and some people are hesitant about it. It’s hard for some to imagine grey being on their floors and walls, but it’s really no different than using beige/browns. The weather here is very gloomy at times, but grey in the home can feel very relaxing and calming.
Grey can also be warm OR cool and can be very versatile with other materials in the home. Don’t be afraid to rethink your concept of neutrals.
CF+T: How do you recommend that clients prepare for working with you?
CH: Think about what you like and don’t like about your current floors and why.
Have a conversation before you come in about the dollar range you are comfortable with spending on the project. We don’t need you to tell us, but we do need to make sure we are helping you effectively.
It’s a perfect balance of finding products that work with your budget, cleaning, maintenance needs and durability while providing a competitive service.
CF+T: Which are your favorite Classique products and why?
CH: I love working with LVT/LVP products. They solve so many problems that I commonly hear expressed by my customers who currently hate their floors. It’s satisfying for me to hear, once everything is finished, how much they love their new surfaces.
I also love working with tile. Tile can be a complicated product, but you can be extremely creative and have a lot of fun with it. I appreciate the craftsmanship of our tile installers and the skills they have to make some of my crazy ideas and complicated installations go smoothly. Seeing the finished product is always very rewarding.
CF+T: Carly, would you describe some favorite new construction or remodeling projects that Classique has been involved in? What made them special?
CH: Mid-Century homes will always be a deep love of mine. When customers have a Mid-Century home and I get to go in and see it fairly untouched, it excites me. I have a real appreciation for customers who want to update surfaces, but keep the home period appropriate.
CF+T: Where do you find ideas to inspire your clients?
CH: I really try to find out from them what would make them go from hating their floors to loving their floors.
I like to ask customers when they are looking at flooring and can’t decide what to do, “Do you love it? Do you want to love your floor” and more often than not, it helps them make the decision on what to do.
Most home owners don’t love spending money on carpeted surfaces, so why not make it something fun that you WILL love?
CF+T: Which is your favorite picture of feet on the floor? Why?
CH: I like them all to be honest. It makes each floor feel so much more personal and individual to a person’s personality.
CF+T: What do you like to do outside of Classique?
CH: I love to spend time with family. My parents are taking care of my cat children right now and I always enjoy driving down to the valley to go visit them.
Recently, my boyfriend and I have been working hard on going on mini trips as much as possible. Some of my recent favorites have been northern Washington, Maupin and the coast. We just went on a five day road trip through Nevada, Utah and Idaho!
CF+T: What is your favorite vacation spot? Why?
CH: I really like to go anywhere that I haven’t been to before. I like to discover new places and see new things and appreciate where I currently live. The Northwest is so beautiful, its easy to forget what we live around with the city getting so big and busy.
CF+T: Carly, what is your favorite restaurant or type of food?
CH: I think this would be too long to list, but here are a few:
- Tasty n sons (everything is amazing, just go there and eat anything they give you)
- Boxer Ramen (best noodle soup ever)
- Gravy (breakfast)
- La Serenita (best tacos ever)
- Ground Breaker (gluten free food and beer)
- Mom’s good ol’ home cooking
CF+T: Thanks, Carly!
