Introducing Mark Herron, Project Consultant for Classique Floors + Tile
CT&F: Mark, what is your background. Are you from Portland?
MH: I was born and raised in Southern California and moved my family to Portland in the early 1990s.
CT&F: How did you come to Classique?
MH: After many years in the flooring business I was looking for a change… something closer to home and a company with an active commitment to the local community.
CT&F: What is your role with the company?
MH: I am a project manager working primarily with Builders and Remodelers.
People come to me as their trusted floor covering specialist. I help my clients make wise decisions with their floor covering dollars and manage the details so they don’t have to.
CT&F: What are the biggest trends in flooring and tile that customers are interested in?
MH: Hard surfaces continue to replace carpet in our homes these days.
We are seeing a return to more interesting sized tiles… hexagons, octagons and classic arabesque shapes are very popular.
CT&F: How do you recommend that clients prepare to work with you?
MH: Social media has gifted us with a tremendous tool by allowing us to access apps like HOUZZ and Pinterest and create unique files showing products and designs we like. I encourage my clients to bring them to our meetings in the showroom and it greatly assists with the design process.
CT&F: Which are your favorite Classique products and why?
MH: My favorite new product is LVT… luxury vinyl tile. It’s a very reasonably price flooring family that can look amazingly just like wood, tile of all types, even cement! It lays directly over existing hard surfaces making installation quick and easy.
CT&F: Describe some favorite remodeling projects Classique has been involved in. What made them special?
MH: Working with remodelers in the Portland area, like Eric Eaton of Eaton Design, I get a chance to be involved in a lot of period appropriate projects.
For example, young families with kids looking to update their 100 year old NE PDX residence to accommodate the needs of the modern family yet still respect the design sensibilities of the original construction.
I get to help turn old attics and basements into living spaces with all of today’s advantages yet looking like they were part of the original design.
It’s very fulfilling work.
CT&F: Where do you find ideas to inspire your clients?
MH: I have the luxury of working side by side with some of Portland’s ‘s most gifted Designers. Folks like Angela Todd of Angela Todd Design are always finding and sharing amazing new ideas.
CT&F: Which is your favorite picture of feet on the floor?
MH: I particularly like the picture of my Oxfords on the tumbled Travertine in my entry at home. Classique shoes on a Classique floor!
CT&F: What do you like to do outside of Classique?
MH: My wife and I are big backyard gardeners and love spending time creating a tranquil, verdant space to enjoy our Portland summer days and nights.
CT&F: What is your favorite vacation spot?
MH: When we get the chance, my wife and I head for the beach… anywhere on the coast is just fine with us
CT&F: Favorite restaurant or type of food?
MH: Love the food and the service at Jake’s downtown.
CT&F: Thanks, Mark!
