The Classique Blog Welcomes You!

Welcome to the Classique Floors + Tile Blog!

Whether you’re looking to remodel your home, spruce up your workspace, or work directly with clients on a design project, we welcome you here and in the Classique showroom! Consider the Classique Blog a digital space off of our physical showroom located at 835 E Burnside Street in Portland, Oregon.

It’s meant to support that experience with additional inspiration and education about the floor + tile products you’ll find within the showroom. And, you can do so from the comfort of your home, and when the showroom isn’t open. Here we can share with you backstories, additional references, and lots of photos to bring the showroom to life, as well as offer answers to your questions. In the process, you can get a taste of the passion we have for this business.

Who Writes the Classique Blog?

This blog is the vision of Abby Mages, who co-owns Classique Floors + Tile with Markus Stoffel. You will often hear directly from her. At other times, you may read articles from Markus and other guest contributors from the Classique Blog Team.

Regardless of the author, you will always sense deep appreciation for beautiful products that transform spaces for the better. That includes how to design with them, take care of them, and in some cases even how to install them.

Everyone you come into contact with at Classique Floors + Tile is committed to ensuring you find the right product for your specific requirements and lifestyle. We’ll spend time with you, ask you questions, and respond to yours. We may even give you homework in the form of articles from the blog and/or links to specific pages on the website so you have the right information to make the right decision. Our goal is to avoid any negative surprises.

Perspective on Classique Floors + Tile Owners Abby and Markus

Abby and Markus share a deep passion for natural products and the environment that goes back to their start in the green business industry in 1993. That’s when they founded Environmental Building Supplies (EBS) in Portland, Oregon, to create a link between manufacturers and users of environmentally sound building products.

Environmental Building Supplies

A piece of EBS history from Abby and Markus

Those products included carpet made from recycled plastic soda bottles, linoleum made from linseed oil, cork, and wood resins; wood preservatives made from vegetable oils; paints based on natural ingredients and those remanufactured from discarded paint collected from the Portland area, recycled tile, as well as all-natural wool carpet, and more. All were of equal or better quality than their traditional equivalents.

That’s also when they developed their unique selling approach which blends thoughtful curiosity about what a customer wants to achieve with a deep understanding of a product’s features, benefits, and environmental claims as they relate to the person buying them.

When you speak with Abby, you’ll soon discover her deep knowledge of wool and textiles, including carpet. She understands what makes one product better for a specific lifestyle than another. Sometimes that has to do with blending natural products with manmade ones. Other times, it’s because of how a product is constructed and how that affects where the product will ultimately reside.

The same goes for wood, cork, waterproof flooring, tile, and any other product available at Classique.

You, as the customer, must be happy with your choice and how it looks and performs in your environment. That’s possible when you have the information you need to evaluate your options.
